Descartes started his line of reasoning by doubting everything, so as to assess the world from a fresh perspective, clear of any preconceived notions. Discourse on Method is Descartess attempt to explain his method of reasoning through even the most difficult of problems. With this work, the idea of skepticism was revived from the ancients such as Sextus Empiricus and modified to account for a truth that Descartes found to be incontrovertible. 1637: Descartes publishes his Discourse on the Method for Guiding One’s Reason and Searching for Truth in the Sciences, the source of the famous quote, I think, therefore I am. René Descartes’ theory of knowledge was first articulated in his famous work The Discourse on the Method, but was fully developed in his later famous work Meditations on First Philosophy. It is a method which gives a solid platform from which all modern natural sciences could evolve.
